3.5/5 ★ – DeluxeSamuel's review of Deadpool.
Deadpool is a fun game even if I felt it was a bit lacking.
I had fun with Deadpool, even if it was pretty much what I expected; a short and fun hack and slash third person shooter with some comedic elements.
The combat was fun. You have a few different gun and melee options. Constantly switching between melee and shooting felt like it offered a nice balance so combat never really felt repetitive to me. I enjoyed swapping out the melee weapons often enough to see the different execution animations.
The only stage where I sorta got frustrated with the gameplay was in this section where I had to use stealth without fail. It took me a few tries just to get and it was annoying because it was not optional (as far as I remember, as it has been a few months since I beat it). Given Deadpool's 4th wall-breaking charm I felt that having a tongue-in-cheek way out for that annoying, cheap section, would have not only felt in the spirit for the game but ultimately avoided my annoyance.
The story is also enjoyable if I felt that it was lacking some depth. Part of my love for the character is his darker, sadder, more depressing side. His struggles, essentially. The movies' do a great job of also showing this side, but there wasn't really any of this here. I get that the game is primarily trying to be comedic but I think that you could have had the best of both world's here.
It was pretty short as well. I think there was only about 8 or so chapters. I was able to beat it in a day or 2, on and off. I know I didn't get all the collectibles or upgrades and such so I'll definitely get another playthrough out of it but it's still a pretty short game overall.
Ultimately, if you're a big fan of the Deadpool humour and want a cool Marvel themed hack-n-slash then I'd say give it a try but if you're looking for a longer game to time-sink or a game with a deeper story then I'd either skip over this or wait till it's cheaper.
