3.5/5 ★ – Diego_Rivera's review of Terminator: Resistance.

Terminator Resistance is by no means an amazing game. It doesn’t do anything mind blowing or ground breaking. What it does is streamline a lot of big budget single player RPG game mechanics we’ve seen time and time again. And that is what I think is this game’s greatest strength. Crafting materials, leveling up, and all the mini games this game has to offer are devoid of any clunkiness and are easy to wrap your head around. This goes a long way since lately my biggest pet peeve in big open world RPGs is how much of a chore the aforementioned game systems tend to feel like. Even the “open world” of Terminator Resistance is simplified and cuts out any unnecessary fluff. They feel more like self contained hub worlds as seen in games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution. This allows for more thought out and well designed levels rather than wide stretching barren wasteland that waste your time as you mindlessly sprint across it. Shooting mechanics feel tight and good to control. You have a large and varied assortment of weapons to choose from. Standard assault rifles, shotguns and explosives. As well as futuristic laser guns that make scrap metal of T-800s. Where’s my phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range? The story is nothing to ride home about, but there are many references fans of the franchise will get a kick out of. By the end of the game it even manages to tie into the first and second movie. I’d go as far as considering this game as canon. It does a better job than any Terminator movies after T2 anyway. Given how much enjoyment I got out of this game, I think the upcoming Robocop video game is in good hands.
