4/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Blazing Chrome.
This is the best "Contra" like game I've ever played. Hands down nothing comes close to the enjoyment I had with this game as it's small improvements to the formula are what really make it shine. It has all the trappings of a contra game with the addition of dodge rolling and a melee attack, that actually does far more damage then you would think. The weaponry and power ups are dope AF and the levels are detailed and full of great enemies, creatures and bosses. I was very skeptical about this game at first. In fact, on my first play through I played without ever using the dodge roll or melee and it was actually quite tough. It wasn't until the final boss that I started using these techniques and it went from hard to do-able. So I replayed it immediately and this time playing the character the way they should be played and I beat the game in just over 2 hours. It didn't make the game "easier", the challenge was still there, it was just far more fun and I died far less. The soundtrack really feels like a SNES era soundtrack and it goes hard AF. Shout out to the composer Dominic Ninmark. Will be revisiting this game in the near future.
