2/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Cyberpunk 2077.

(For transparency I played this game on a base PS4) CD Project Red lost me on "The Witcher 3". Considering Cyberpunk was a far departure from that franchise I figured it would be pretty amazing. Plus it is absolutely my aesthetic. Over the last decade I've been heavy into Retro Future art, music and movies and its really been one of my favorite go to genres. So I pre-ordered this game and get the special edition that was all shiny and came with a necklace and post cards. Man was it exciting! But then I played the game. So lets skip the total disaster that was this games launch. Yes, I was having tons of problems. My game was glitchy and buggy as hell. Yet I powered through and gave it a go despite the issues. The game looked amazing. The details in the environment and character designs was phenomenal. It seemed like the possibilities were endless when it came to finding weapons and exploring the city and these were the parts of the game that I really liked. But this game suffers from the exact same over bearing menu system that "The Witcher 3" has. This time I'm a little more savvy about the menus but there's still so much happening here. Again I power through because I really want to get into this experience. But as the game progressed, and granted I don't remember how many hours I put into it but it wasn't much, I wasn't having as much fun as I had hoped. Weapons all felt powerless, despite being at required levels to take on certain enemies. The hand to hand / melee combat didn't feel good at all either. Driving in this game didn't handle as tightly as I expected either, but that maybe more in tune with the cars themselves? I didn't get some of those really rad looking vehicles so I may not have gotten the full experience there. But from what I was able to play, the game was just ok. It didn't feel revolutionary and I never felt like it broke the mold with its gameplay. And while the bugs didn't ruin my experience, the constant 40 to 60 gig updates did. I live in an area with really bad internet regardless of provider and I have a 25 gig cap....so as you can imagine a 60 fucking gigabyte update ate right through that. I had to stop playing this game for the sake of my internet and being able to do literally anything else online. That's what did it. So I don't plan to return to night city. Cd Project Red has lost me twice with 2 completely different games. Despite all the good in them, I won't be supporting any more titles out of this company because clearly they just aren't doing anything for me despite the positive write ups. Fuck it, I'm gonna go back and play some PS2 games. They were far more fun.
