4/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Dante's Inferno.

(Xbox 360) I consider this a God of War clone, but let me be clear, I say that with positive connotations. Brutal combos followed by dodge rolls followed by more brutal combos is a formula that was not only familiar but a lot of fun. This game is one massive horror experience from top to bottom and as a fan of the genre I loved the grotesques creatures you face in hells many circles. I also really dug the story and Dante as a character who, despite his journey into hell to save his lovers soul, is a deeply flawed human being looking for redemption along the way. Will I upgrade Dante with hellish punishing attacks or with the light to further give his cross more power in the underworld? Such a great aspect to the game. The voice acting was also great. This game had average review scores but it was my jam. Like Dante himself, the game wasn't perfect, but it had enough positives going for it that I feel it was more than redeemable but a title worthy of owning. (PSP) The PSP version wasn't reviewed quite as well as the console versions, but it was still impressive that they were able to scale down the experience to a handheld version. And yeah I played it to its conclusion there too and enjoyed my time with it, if more for the fact that it was a mobile game. It might be more of a 3.5 star but I still enjoyed it. (Movie) Yes, its not a game, but I did want to mention that the animated film of this game was awesome and how every chapter had a different animation styles. It made for a fun viewing experience over all. To sort of close the lid on this game, I feel like it had sequel potential and it was set up as such, but I don't think one will ever really materialize. Still the ideas were dope and it knew who its audience was. I don't know if this will ever be more than just a one and done, but it definitely left an impression with its audience, myself included.
