5/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

I'll start by just coming out and saying that "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" is the best game I played this year (so far). I've had this game downloaded for almost 2 years or so and finally got around to it a few weeks back. I didn't know what to expect when i started it up as I'd never played a Deus Ex game in my life. The Cyber Punk asthetic was the only reason I got it to begin with but little did I know I was going to come to a major conclusion. "Mankind Divided" was the game I wanted "Cyber Punk 2077" to be. When I finally got into the game I was immediately impressed with my augments and abilities that I'd eventually re-unlock through my playthrough. I've played my fair share of FPS up to this point, so the run and gun, shoot first and ask questions later approach just didn't suit me for this particular title. I began my run with stealth and non-lethal options, which was actually quite a lot fun. I approached this game like I would have a Splinter Cell title and it made it more intersting to me to have Adam Jensen have a conscious rather than being a blood hungry killer. Funny enough though, this actually changed around the last part of the game, or rather, when it started raining... At that point everybody had become an enemy. While it may seem understandable to kill any and all terrorist one of my focuses of my anger was actually the police in the game. They start off as a bit of a nuisance but eventually turn into a major threat. Despite my best efforts of trying to be non-lethal, I eventually became a silent assassin. By the time the last mission of the game came around I cleaned out the city streets and then made my way to just disposing of ARC terrorists. IT was odd to me that I would make that jump but as the game progressed I started getting angrier at everyone. I found this kinda interesting that the game affected me in this way and changed my attitude about how I was playing. I still loved going through the game as stealth as possible and always looked for vents and alternative means to get the job done or get to my destination which made this game really shine for me. The fact that I had options to finish an objective in multiple ways was rad and I apprecated that. The only thing I didn't care for quite as much was the manual Hacking you had to do to open doors, cells, safes, ect. While I didn't hate it, it still felt like a slowed the game down, and with as much as there was to hack, I was doing it helluva whole lot. Infact a 3rd of the time I was in the game, I was HACKING! Yet even with that I still found it somewhat addictive because i wanted to be able to access anything. I was pretty close to doing it too. There was so much to like in this game, and the side quests were also great at opening up the world of the game. This was the ideal Cyberpunk experience and one that I wish I had known about sooner. I honestly can't wait until we get a new game in the franchise and as of this writing they announced a follow up to this game which probably won't drop for a few years. Still, I'm a fan and I can't wait to see where this franchise goes next. (Side Note) I was telling my co-worker about this game and he misheard the title when I dropped it. He asked me "wait, so your playing a game called Day of Sex"? That tickled me and I just said "Yes...Day of Sex, Thats exactly what I'm playing." Thats gonna be stuck in my head now.
