3/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Dragon's Crown Pro.

Bought the cool steel book addition of this game for a couple bucks. I was pretty stoked about it too. "Dragons Crown" has this amazing art and I was already aware what Vanillaware could do after playing "Muramasa the Demon Blade". I found this on PS4 and was excited to finally get to play this game...and then I played the game. I was disappointed to find that while the art and the world looked great, the characters felt like they were way to big for the screen. They really filled it up. That made it a little hard to keep track of enemy characters since those levels made combat feel like fisticuffs. Because of this I could appreciate the action in the game. It really did ruin the experience for me. Bigger isn't always better and I don't feel like zooming into the action was a necessary move. But I'm glad it reviewed well. Chalk it up to Personal preferences. (Update) So my initial playthrough was 5 years ago and I recently revisited the game on my PSVita to give it another shot. Now this time the character to screen size didn't bother me quite as much and I loved the way it looked on a smaller screen. Looking at this game reminded me how beautiful it was and I seemed to have completely ignored the soundtrack which was also very beautiful and I'm not sure why it stuck out so much this time. Whats funny is I got to the exact same spot as the last time I played this game before I thought "hmmm yeah I think I'm good here". Another issue I had found was that, while the combat was ok, it was 1 very slow and 2 once you have a party of 4 going into battle things get a little too heckctic to the point that I had a hard time keeping track of my character. I also thought the hit boxes were either a bit off or my character never seemed to have lined up in just the right way to get a good hit in. I'm always gonna be down to try a Vanillaware game and I plan on playing another soon, but Dragon's Crown just doesn't seem to do much for me as a side scrolling beat-em up. Damn shame
