4.5/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Pikmin 1 + 2.
(Story Time)
Way back in 2002 I had played the original Pikmin on my trusty ol Gamecube. I really enjoyed the slow paced nature of it but was somewhat put off by the 30 day cut off point. What made it a little more difficult for me was that I had rented that game so I had it for a limited amount of time. Fortunately, I had more time to play then so I started over and finished the game under the 30 day cut off. My time with Pikmin was brief but memorable. By the time Pikmin 2 was released in 2004 I had already started College and much of my extra time was spent watching Anime, Horror movies and hanging out with friends creating college memories. It was a wonderful time for sure so gaming took a slight back seat. In 2006 or so my cube finally called it quits and I didn't have the ability to play any other gamecube games until I got my Wii in 2007. By that time my mind had moved on to newer consoles and "Pikmin 2" was put on the far far back burner as Nintendo titles were never cheap and I didn't have the funds to throw money at everything I wanted then. So the franchise became a nice little memory to me. That was until a few weeks back...
With the bundled of Pikmin 1 & 2 available for the Switch I finally decided to give the sequel a go and it perfectly aligned itself in my Summer slate of games where I've decided to go back and play the Gamecube titles I missed back in the day. From the jump "Pikmin 2" gave me the warm fuzzies as it took on a bit of a different role to me then the last title as its been 20 some years since I last dove into this universe. As I played this game I wasn't playing so much for "fun" but more as a way to relax my mind as much of the gameplay is quite peaceful. The cycle of: find treasure - solve puzzle - kill bugs - collect treasure - collect bug corpses - multiply pikmin - repeat, was so enjoyable and chill. My only real frustrations was when I got scooped up by a flying asshole or my Pikmin got eating by the fistful by gluttonous assholes or got blown up by thin legged cannon wielding assholes. Lots of Asshole bugs in this game.
Despite this I needed all the treasures and I couldn't let Louie's dumbass be a spider decoration. I enjoyed my time with Pikmin 2 and surprisingly, put more hours into it than I would have thought. This is cool franchise and hopefully it doesn't take me another 20 years to play #3. But given my game schedule for the next year or two, it might still take some time before I travel back to the world of these tiny little plant people.
Final time 43 Hours 35 Minutes.
