3/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Sonic Advance.
As a kid who grew up on 2D Sonic games I was actually on board with the franchise going 3D, so anytime I play any Sonic levels where I'm able have a 2D experience these days is just a great time to be had. "Sonic Advance" is a 2001 game for the GBA so I wasn't expecting great things, thought I did expect it to mimic the original games well enough.
Coming into "Sonic Advance" my expectations were low out the gate.
The game itself was fine and it ran well enough. It looked fine as well for a GBA game but the music quality in the game was pretty spotty and quite bad in most cases. I ran through the game as Sonic but once I was done I had no want to go back and play as Knuckles, Tails or Amy. I've said this more than a few times already but had I played this around the time of its release nostalgia might have played a factor in this playthrough, but unfortunately as a first play it didn't live up to its original counterparts in any way.
This doesn't stop me from looking forward to playing the rest of the series through. Sequels tend to learn for past mistakes and make a superior product (most times) so I can't wait to see where the hedgehog goes next.
