3/5 ★ – Diluted_Thought's review of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

As I'd mentioned in my review for "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" this franchise varies on its quality from game to game and boy was this one hard to rate. I should mention that I've played this game many times during its initial released and just recently on Switch thanks to Night Dive studios remaster of this title. I'll start with the good. First off, the game looked AMAZING back in 1998. It was a step up from the original as there was different enemy variety and lots of cool new ways to blow them apart. Your arsenal was bigger, had crazier weapons and introduced the world to one of the gnarliest guns ever created, the Cerebral Bore. The game used what they called "Soft Cell" technology (I may be misremembering the term) but it allowed you to hear the bullets pierce the enemy and it made a very squishy nasty sound every time. The levels were also Massive and full of details and secrets. It also introduced not 1, but 2 deadly new threats in the Primagen and Oblivion. The game also had cutscenes and dialogue which the first game didn't really have and that really helped flesh out the story a bit more. The soundtrack was also fantastic. The Night Dive remaster made this game look very crisp and really makes it look like what I remember in my mind. Despite all the good it comes with a ton of flaws. The game is incredibly difficult, even on normal settings. The enemies have animations that cannot be stopped even when you kill them. So for instance if you run into an enemy called Endtrails, they will shoot at you with their arm cannons. If you kill them in the middle of their shooting animation you will still get shot because the game has to finish its animation. So I could be low on health, get a good shot in and still be killed by a shot despite how DEAD that monster is. Very annoying stuff. I did mention the levels were massive, but while it was really cool to run through them it was also a big pain in the ass since a few of those levels felt like you were trying to travers a maze. Its easy to get lost in this game, especially once you enter the Lair of the Blind Ones or the Primagens Light Ship. The level design is terrible. Which is a damn shame because of how wonderful they made them to look. The boss fights are also kind of a joke since the fights are so cheap. I suppose some of these issues could be over looked but there is still one more glairing problem with this game. Turok 2 has a side objective that has players run through these big ass levels in search of Sacred Eagle Feathers, Feather Shrines and Primagen Keys. So the way it breaks down is, You find a feather in level 4, but the shrine is in hidden somewhere in level 3 and it unlocks an ability to reach a hidden key in level 1. It is one of the worst fuckin decisions I've ever seen in a video game. It makes this game almost unplayable as it is such a pain in the ass to go and find all this shit just to make it to the final level, which is also terribly designed and the final Boss is damn near invincible. If you ever decide to play this game, play with cheats, I promise you'll have a much better time with them. find me on twitter @DilutedThought
