3/5 ★ – Dishon's review of Halo Infinite.
A missed opportunity for 343 to cement themselves as being worthy of handling the franchise. Their previous entries tended to stumble out of the gate or even just fall flat before gaining any momentum.
With Halo Infinite, the exact opposite happened. The stage was set up perfectly for them to take the title as the best shooter, and one of these best games of 2021. They surprise dropped the multiplayer a month early, which received glowing reviews as a taste of what’s to come for the full release. Unfortunately, what we thought was a taste was actually the entire dish. From a lack of content, to missing features included in previous Halo games, to ridiculous micro transaction prices; there just wasn’t enough to satiate the players’ hunger for Halo content after a 6 year drought.
It’s a shame because mechanically, this is probably the best playing Halo game that’s ever released from a gameplay perspective. Everything from the gunplay to the traversal feels amazing. Maybe even surpassing the Bungie games.
The story was very strong too. It had some great character moments, and Master Chief felt perfectly written compared to Halo 4 and 5. I enjoyed the campaign even if it was a little rushed at the end.
I think Halo Infinite is a strong foundation, and if 343 can capitalize on that foundation and start to release content more consistently, it has potential to rival some of the best Halo games to ever be released.
