5/5 ★ – DrippyHippy's review of Cyberpunk 2077.
On launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was an absolute disaster. It built up this awful reputation that unfortunately a lot of people still view to this day. However, that’s far from the truth nowadays. After update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty DLC, the game took a complete 180 and a lot of the game was cleaned up. And while there are still a few bugs here and there, it’s still a massive improvement from launch. Anyways, I’ve dumped around 40 hours into this masterpiece of a game and it’s been one of the most fun gameplay experiences I’ve ever had in recent memory.
The story is absolutely fantastic and all of the characters are all super fleshed out and interesting. All 5 of the base game endings (other than maybe 2 of them iykyk) are so good and I just love how the game lets you choose how you want to end your journey in whatever way you feel is right. I personally went with the Don’t Fear The Reaper ending, which I won’t get into detail because of spoilers.
The gameplay is really good and has so much variety allowing you to choose how you want to handle certain situations. Wanna be a gunslinging revolver demon from the Wild West? Go for it! Wanna be a badass samurai wielding a katana? You can do that too! Wanna mess with your enemies by hacking into them and their surroundings? Go ahead! And the best part about it is that there’s skill trees and cyberware for pretty much any play style, allowing you to become a complete cyberpsycho. I personally went with a Katana (byakko) x Falcon Sandevistan build. This allowed me to slow down time and slash through mass groups of enemies which made for such a cool and unique experience.
Night City somehow manages to look so beautiful despite all the chaos. Pretty much everywhere you go is eye catching. Not only that, but cruising around the vast open world in your pimped out ride makes it all feel so much better. I personally drove around in a Blue and Orange Turbo R but then moved to the Rayfield Caliburn (fastest car in Night City) towards the end of the game.
One more thing before I end this review. DO NOT JUST DO MAIN STORY MISSIONS! Cyberpunk offers so much more outside of the main story and if you just stick to that, you’re locking yourself away from the true cyberpunk experience. If you just blow through the main story missions, got The Devil ending and beat it under like 10-12 hours, you clearly missed the whole point of the game. Spend some time doing NCPD missions for some quick cash, go out and find a cool car to drive around in, do some side quests that’ll get you some incredible awards like Tier 4/5 weapons, buy some new drippy clothes, upgrade your cyberware at a ripperdoc, etc. There’s so much to do in this game so please TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!
Overall, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best games I’ve ever played and I can’t wait to dump even more hours into it. Would I recommend it? Hell yeah I would. And don’t worry about having a horrible PC. My PC was under $800 (toaster) and it ran the game perfectly fine. Genuinely can’t recommend this game enough.
