3/5 ★ – Durza44's review of Chronos : Before the Ashes.

Serving as a prequel of sorts to the excellent Remnant, Chronos started life as a VR experience and possibly should have remained that way. That's not to say I didn't enjoy my time with this pretty short and surprisingly easy game, it's just that apart from a fascinating and mysterious world, it didn't really have much to offer. The gameplay can best be described as Dark Souls lite with a few different unlockable weapons and magic abilities that make the combat varied just enough to hold your interest while you explore some genuinely interesting and quite beautiful environments. The boss fights are fun whereas the basic enemies suffer from being too repetitive and all of the same few types - this is primarily what separates it from being anywhere near as good as the Soulsborne games. The world, atmosphere and story are all there but the gameplay certainly isn't at par. Overall, this game is a short burst of Souls-lite fun that doesn't overstay it's welcome but doesn't wow either.
