4/5 ★ – Durza44's review of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
The Bureau is a game that never really should have existed - starting out life as a horror-esque FPS, before transitioning suddenly into the third person tactical shooter that was released. Baring the XCOM name and some of the aliens, very little else will be recognisable to fans of the XCOM games originally released on the Xbox 360/PS3. However, that simply makes it a unique experience that I absolutely loved.
The period setting and conspiracy heavy Americana environments are a joy to play through and many of the set pieces are as exciting as they come. The game overflows with atmosphere that has made me replay it multiple times in spite of the admittedly average gameplay. The shooting isn't too bad but the tactics element is underused and not fleshed out enough to be completely useful.
Overall, this game is worth playing mainly due to the insane story and mysterious enemies and atmosphere - just don't expect a perfect tactical experience or the best shooting around.
