3.5/5 ★ – ENSeventea's review of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
I think this game sits somewhere between a 7.5-8/10.
This is going to be very disjointed.
I love 40K lore. I grew up being introduced it through my bestfriend in primary school and fell off for a long time (that shit is expensive).
Having got back into it years later I started absorbing as much lore content as I could. This imo is one of the most indepth pieces of media that you could consume for 40K lore in one package.
My gripes come with the fact this game came out after BG3 and I feel like its unfair to compare the two. But with that said. There was things in BG3 that I believe should have been in this game. That shouldn't have been an issue to implement in.
Just small QoL things. Is all.
Story wise. I loved it but I felt like it was very long. HLTB says this game takes roughly 60 hours. I ended up clocking about 110 hours in.
I think there was A LOT of text. And a lot of it being flavour text I unfortunately started skipping through it. Act 2 felt a lot longer than it needed to be.
Necron are also my favourite army and lore out there. I wish they were there a bit earlier but being able to see a C'tan od in 3D like that is so sick.
I'm excited to know that Owlcat will be making a second game. I hope they get the budget for more voice acting. And honestly, I hope we get to be a bit more personal with our retinue. I absolutely loved Abelard, Argenta, Yrliet, Pascal. And I would have loved to get a few more personal cutscenes with them.
I also think the progression skill system needs to be cleaned up. Getting to the third tier just seemed pointless.
I think I will give myself a break before I jump to the first dlc pack. But I very much enjoyed this game.
