4/5 ★ – ElementaryGaming's review of Steins;Gate Elite.

A cool time-traveling story. The plot offers a fascinating mix of real-life references and people with fiction. A likable, interesting cast of characters, for the most part. Very "anime". Much of the story takes place within an apartment room, and much occurs within that simple setting, which is impressive. The way the plot dives deep into potential personal consequences for time travel is compelling, and I appreciate that it isn't afraid to go to some very dark places. The story is slow-paced but builds up in a meaningful way, leading to a great conclusion. The romantic aspects with so many of the supporting characters often felt unnecessary, and are definitely the weakest part of the story. They made the already-lengthy story longer than it needed to be. The somewhat grating main character with delusions of grandeur, as well as a girl who constantly speaks like a cat, can be quite grating as well. The nature of the protagonist is given an explanation by the end of the game, which is nice. There things do not ruin the experience by any means, but it does make the extremely high praise this game often receives somewhat surprising. The way Elite mixes anime footage with visual novel gameplay is extremely cool, and it offers a completely unique experience in this regard. However, there is a tradeoff here, which is the loss of the awesome, detailed artwork of the original game. It's hard to say which is "better". But it's a cool, unique experience regardless. Oh, and the soundtrack is very solid.
