4.5/5 ★ – ElementaryGaming's review of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.
By far and away the best Uncharted game out of the original trilogy, and outshines everything before it in every way.
Very detailed environments, every single level has an impressive sense of place. The outdoor woodland levels in particular look amazing. Many more instances of impressive camera placement, leading to a truly cinematic feel. Learning about Nate's past through some throwback levels was a great surprise, and it overall the best Uncharted story. It's also the most thematically sound, focusing on Nate's motivation as an explorer and dreams that could be deemed too grand.
Even the shooting feels tighter and more responsive than ever before, and the guns sound even more loud and real. The game also avoids throwing you into too many "kill a ton of guys to proceed" situations like the first two games, instead opting for greater variety in the action which never makes the shooting feel stale.
The only real con are the puzzles. Just like the first two, they just aren't very fun, can be too obtuse, and kill the forward momentum that is otherwise there.
Uncharted 3 is a fantastic game. This is the one that deserves to be in the conversation about the greatest games of the PS3 generation.
