1/5 ★ – Elesh's review of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Sometimes a single mistake can ruin a game. For me, Breath of the Wild is that game. I could tell you a lot of parts of it that had potential... from the vast world to explore to a physics system that is truly innovative. But... none of that really mattered to my experience. Why? Because of the Breath of the Wild inventory/durability systems. I hated this system so much that it literally spoiled every other facet of the game. You name it, some aspect of the durability and inventory systems made it frustrating, unsatisfying, and obnoxious for me. I won't go through everything, but just as a few samples: Combat - weapons breaking so quickly made it so I literally never wanted to fight anything. And every time I fought anything I felt like I lost due to the broken weapons. Exploration - I no longer felt free to explore... I felt like I HAD to explore in order to find the stupid seeds I needed to expand my inventory. There was no longer the childlike sense of wonder at poking into every corner... it was instead replaced with a frantic, urgent need to look everywhere to find seeds. And so on... literally every part of the game was soured by this one system. So I, personally, cannot recommend this game, even though I can see a lot of things within it that could have been good... if not for the inventory system. And thus, to me, it was a truly miserable experience to play through the entire slog that was Breath of the Wild. But if the inventory system doesn't cause you the same issues it did me, then you might well love it.
