3/5 ★ – Empyrean's review of Haunted Castle Revisited.

As someone who’s always liked Haunted Castle, I was overjoyed when I heard about this remake and was the main reason I bought the Dominus Collection in the first place, but I’m actually somewhat disappointed. To be clear, this remake serves one singular purpose: to make the original easier and more palatable. It certainly does that, as one of the hardest Castlevanias is now one of the easiest. It honestly goes too far, as things like the Hunchbacks no longer even pose a threat. There’s also the issue of whole sections just being removed, such as the yellow devil wall, the burning forest, and the weird harpy dimension thing. There is a lot of good additions, namely the bosses receiving full makeovers and being much more enjoyable now. It won’t replace the original for me, but I’m glad it exists.
