3/5 ★ – Endless_backlog's review of Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game.

Lego Pirates of the carribean acts as a collection of the movies, with the first 4 movies all playable and allowing you to play them in whichever order you like. I personally had never seen the fourth movie so I just played the first three as the story and references throughout were the charm and novelty for me and therefore the 4th would miss that.
Captain Jack Sparrow is the star here, with his Lego character mimicking his drunken run and even voiced (murmered) by Johnny Depp himself. There’s also plenty of other playable characters like Will Turner and Bootstrap Bill, who can pass through barnacle covered walls that no one else can, as well as many random characters that are there for a purpose but don’t make you feel nostalgic for the movies. The great villains from the movies in Hector Barbossa and Davy Jones look great in Lego form.
The most unique feature is the use of Jacks compass from the movie, where it pointed towards what the owner wanted most. In the game however, it is used to find key items and collectibles and makes you walk on a bit of a treasure hunt to find buried items. The level design is interesting for the most part, from fighting aboard ships such as the Black Pearl to fending off cannibals. The iconic soundtrack is taken from the movies and really sets the tone of the game.
If you are a fan of the franchise Lego Pirates has enough going for it to create an enjoyable experience and was an interesting venture away from the Star Wars and Superhero games that make up the bulk of Lego games. It’s not without its moments of monotony but it does offer a lot of fun battle scenes with a great score and that’s all I could ask for.
