3.5/5 ★ – Endless_backlog's review of MediEvil: Resurrection.

7.5/10 Medievil Resurrection is a reimagining of the original Medievil 1 game. I played it on the PS plus catelogue but it was originally released for PSP. Unlike the 2019 remaster which was a like for like update of the original game with PS4 graphics, this game was chopped and changed. The original gothic atmosphere is replaced with a more goofy style, with lots of silly jokes and catchphrases added, particularly by the addition of a narrator introducing levels. I personally preferred the theme of the originals to this. There are several new additions to the game itself particularly in the levels. Some were removed and some were added. I particularly liked the new Scurvy Docks mission where you have to dress as a pirate. I also liked the fact you can collect the chalice whenever, and don’t need to trail back to find it once you’ve got enough souls. Theres new characters such as Al-Zalam, a genie whose powers were stripped by Zarok and now lives in Dans Skull, accompanying him on his journey. The gargoyles who give information are replaced with new creatures who I’m not a particular fan of. However, the final boss battle with Zarok and his final form is the best version of any of the games in my opinion. I liked the addition of the mini games in the main menu (which are also a part of the game itself if you want to unlock the best weapon), and can imagine it being a fun extra on PSP. Overall, I preferred the original/remaster for its gothic atmosphere and lack of cheesiness, but Resurrection makes some fun additions and levels and is a fun time to play through if you want a change from the original.
