2/5 ★ – Eshanthegreat's review of KAMLA.

Now I will be honest with you all, whenever a game markets or tries to market itself as made by or for the Indians my spider senses get triggered harder than a male's third leg in morning hours. Not to mention, I had every reason to be skeptical since many of these games often turn out to be disasters sold on the basis of nationalism. Combining this with joke of a demo for this game and the original pricing I almost had my hate boner ready to be jerked off at the release date. But even after all that, gambling the last bit of money I saved,I finally played it and was both pleasantly surprised and frustrated. Pros: ●KAMLA has quite some neat details as an Indian exorcism game that were pleasing to see. For example-how for every life you loose it shows a diya getting extinguished on death screen or how accurate the items needed for exorcism were or how your main character chants "Om Namah shivay" if Kamla is too close etc. ●I also love how upon entering the house the ways in which you encounter KAMLA for the first time varies depending on where you decided to explore. ●The way house is structured gives off that Middle class Indian family vibe pretty well. ●KAMLA's presence was also quite well telegraphed with how you can hear sounds of her 'payal' if she is near you or hear her foul breaths if she is dangerously close making encounters somewhat fair. Cons: ●Game thinks cheap random events and jumpscares was an effective way to deliver horror. ●Most puzzles were way too simplistic. ●The level design just wasn't as good as the game that inspired it i.e-Granny. ●The game also has tendency to trigger random events which not only costs me 1 hiding place but also unfairly gives away my location to KAMLA. ●Game isn't as replayable as Granny. ●The original and current price were too much too ask for when Granny(a much better alternative btw) is available at cheaper price.
