4.5/5 ★ – EthanTheHuman's review of Deltarune: Chapter 2.
This chapter feels like an extension of chapter 1. Well I mean, obviously it's part 2 of the Deltarune story, but it definitely takes what made chapter 1 great and enhances that, but also has the same issues as chapter 2.
The characters and character moments in this chapter are such a delight. It feels like watching just the most charming, tropey high school disney cartoon in the best way, with a bunch of internet humor thrown in. It's so fun and definitely enhanced by the addition of 2 side characters in Noelle and Birdley, and of course Queen. Noelle and Birdley are great additions to the main cast, but it took me a long time to not be settled by Queen's weird way of speaking. She doesn't use punctuation, and talks like she's chatting in a discord instead of being a character. It took me a while to shake that uncanny valley feeling off and appreciate the quirks of the villain, but it did, and I really grew to love her by the end especially with the absolutely insane final encounters.
I'm left with more questions than answers naturally, and my curiosity about Ralsei has peaked so much. I'm so fascinated by this character. He is such a cute lil guy but there's just something a little bit off about him, and even moreso than that is the way the other characters barely acknowledge him if at all! I'm dying to find out everything about this game so only being stuck with 4 chapters is killing me 😭😭
Since this is even longer than chapter 1 the linearity was reaaaally getting to me, the story was great don't get me wrong but I was just constantly thinking about how I'm not really playing a video game and it was weird, so that's where the missing half-a-star went, but obviously it's still a super high rating cause of how amazing everything else is.
