3/5 ★ – FancyFriday18's review of Blue Prince.
Blue Prince is definitely an interesting game, but honestly, it’s not something I think I could or would finish on my own. Big shout out to Cas for sticking with it! The game really deserves credit for its clever and unique approach to gameplay. Still, there’s one big thing that makes it frustrating, and to be fair, I’m not sure how you could fix it without messing up the game’s core design.
As you know, Blue Prince is very much a roguelike. Every day you start with a totally fresh setup. The main issue, compared to other roguelikes like Hades, is this. No matter how bad your luck is in Hades, skill can always carry you to the finish line. In Blue Prince, though, it seems like sometimes, even if you know exactly what to do, you can get stuck with terrible RNG and there’s just no way around it. I really noticed this toward the end of my playthrough it felt like some days were just wasted time.
All in all, it’s a good game with a unique twist, but you need a lot of patience to actually make it to the end.
