4/5 ★ – FarnySeals's review of Labyrinth Of The Demon King.

There aren’t many games that capture the grim, rotten, rusted looking aesthetic of PS1 and 2 horror games like Silent Hill 1, 3 and Forbidden Siren 1 and 2, but Labyrinth of the Demon King absolutely fucking nails it, like walking around My House Walk-Through by PiroPiro, a great short film/YouTube video that I highly recommend if you like how this game looks. With a wide, fun selection of weapons, challenging enemies, and addictive level design, the game is such a great spooky survival horror game, inspired stylistically by dungeon crawlers like King’s Field, even if it’s actually lot more like a first person Silent Hill game in execution. It’s unfortunately short, but sweet. I’d absolutely kill for a sequel to this that fully dives into dungeon crawling RPG elements with complex labyrinths and dungeons. I saw a lot of people having trouble with exploration and combat in this game, and maybe it’s because I managed to beat both Forbidden Siren games, but I actually found this to be fairly easy. It’s silly, but the inclusion of a jump button makes it a little too easy at times, when near the end of sections I’d figured I could just jump over certain enemies instead of wasting healing items I’d need for the next boss. There’s also no punishment for dying, no health reduction, item damage, etc, which makes it a lot less scarier to die. I think if it pulled from more Soulsborne elements and made it fairly gruelling to get though, the short 5 hour runtime would extend to at least 7 hours or so. All my criticism of it being too short and too easy are mostly out of frustration because I loved this game so much. The little characters are awesome, the weapons are fun and I switched between them often, the world building and the allusions to different levels of hell are fascinating, and the atmosphere is just perfect. If the developers make a game similar to this, or even a sequel, I’d love to see more From Software inspiration like the inclusion of obscure side quests, giving you special quest items, talismans, armours, and weapons, I’d love larger RPG/dungeon crawling elements with bigger levels, punishments for dying, and more complex combat builds. I’d even love more of the survival horror stuff, give me more puzzles and more spooky world-building. Give me more, more, more. This game is so awesome and I want more. Also, I was one trophy away from getting the platinum, but due to the fact I work so much, I’ve made the heartbreaking decision to leave it, because it requires playing the game again and finding all the equipment upgrade items. Oh well, I’ll come back to it one day.
