2.5/5 ★ – FerrumCrow's review of The Convenience Store | 夜勤事件.

Played from – to: (2023-01-23 – 2023-01-23) – PC keyboard. ‣ 5/10 – Night shifts suck ass. ‣ Thoughts: So, I played a different aesthetic horror game from Chilla’s Art, and of course, I liked it. The vibes are there, the suspense is around, and the janky NPC models never cease to amaze. However, the only other game that I have played from these developers is The Closing Shift, so that is the only comparison I can make. With that said, The Convenience Store tackles a different story. Without getting into spoilers, it is a supernatural threat, that might seem like another case of stalkers. I find it difficult to review this experience because it felt like a quick movie you would watch on a whim. There wasn’t much to do gameplay-wise, and it is a short game. On average, people will complete it in around 50 minutes. If I had to compare this to The Closing Shift, I’d say it is a weaker game in every aspect. It has fewer jump scares, less tension, and just overall fewer things happening. Everything seems rather normal until the last 10 minutes, where the game ends. I’m not saying all this isn’t good because not having stuff happen clearly indicates that something’s off. On the contrary it can make some people freak out. But I just found it lackluster. Overall, The Convenience Store is a decent experience but lacks many components that made The Closing Shift such a hit.
