4.5/5 ★ – Fokathepingvin's review of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.
Nowadays where a lot of videogames tend to be allegories for mental illness and such, Hellblade dealing with such a topic without sugarcoating it is incredibly bold and important. These words are based on the words of a woman smarter than I (my girlfriend), but it is also my biggest takeaway from the game.
Hellblade deals with an incredibly heavy and important topic, and does it with lots of care and attention. Senua’s journey through Hell, both her own, and like, actual Hel is a story that I think everyone should experience at least once.
The games setting is incredible, it is a very interesting and dark interpretation of norse mythology, with a suffocating and sometimes scary and horrifying atmosphere, and the beautifully made environments and the sound design really help to estabilish it.
The games short runtime makes it so that the puzzles never get old, and it tends to switch up the formula a lot. Every puzzle is unique, and pretty smart.
The voice acting is incredible, Senua, the voices, and everyone else is incredibly well acted.
I think the only thing that is holding the game back is the combat, as it is the weakest part of the game. Not saying that its bad, i actually really like it a lot, and it feels very good to play, but the lack of enemy variety made it a bit boring near the end.
Perfect spooky october game, with a very important story. More people should play this!!!
