1/5 ★ – FoofDeckman's review of FBC: Firebreak.
This is one of the biggest disappointments of the entire year for me, I never expected this game to be THAT good, but my god I didn't expect this. A coop shooter set in the same setting as Control (2019) should have worked. Never have I played a coop shooter that feels like the antithesis of fun in the same way FBC: Firebreak is. I love Remedy and it really hurts to see a studio I respect break that trust.
So what makes it so bad? Well for starters every single mission feels like a chore to play. This game's 5 levels, yes there are only five levels, are set up in such a way that make me want to bash my head against the wall. Who thought shooting endless sticky notes or shooting every spore on a cliff until it popped out radioactive rocks was a good idea? Every level lacks creativity with its objectives as you not only have to do these objectives once, you do the same ones three times until the level is over. Is it challenging in the slightest? No, it's just incredibly boring and tedious. These levels are also very short, I personally beat the entire game in less than 4 hours while taking my time and going through everything. On top of this the gunplay is also terrible as well, everything is extremely floaty feeling, you almost never feel like you're shooting an actual weapon. The enemies are also barely a threat, I played this game on Normal and I had almost no trouble killing enemies in 2-3 shots, never in a million years did I ever feel like I was in actual danger or at risk of failing.
Between this game's terrible level design, objectives and enemies, I truly couldn't push myself to play more of this. I finished the game's 5 levels and called it a day, you cannot pay me to play more of this. I'm so glad I didn't pay for this game and got it through Gamepass, because I would feel borderline scammed by FBC: Firebreak if I paid it's $40 asking price. Please do not check out this game, I truly hope this isn't a sign of what's to come for Remedy and just stays an anomaly in an otherwise great track record. Please don't screw up the Max Panye remakes or Control 2, thanks.
