2.5/5 ★ – FoofDeckman's review of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

Darkside Chronicles is a very frustrating game, while its core mechanics are definitely improved from the previous entry, featuring a more cohesive story with much more faithful retellings of older games in the series (RE2 and Code Veronica), It somehow manages to be a lot more frustrating to play than Umbrella Chronicles. I'm still under the impression that turning Resident Evil into an on rail shooter is a really cool concept, especially as a means to recreate moments from the previous games. But for whatever reason, I don't know who behind the scenes thought it was a great idea to add shaky cam to an on rails shooter, but they need to be fired immediately if they haven't been already. The ability to hit enemies was already difficult enough in the first game, even on the lowest difficulty, especially when they can be bullet sponges or react in ways you can't anticipate, but adding a shaky camera on top of this really makes it near impossible to aim sometimes, especially during some of the boss fights. Call it a skill issue, call it me being bad at on rail shooters, but I rarely get motion sick while playing games and this gave me the worst headache even after just a couple hours of playing it. One of the reasons it took so long for me to finish this game was because I could only manage to play it in during one hour bursts at a time, just to avoid feeling sick afterwards. Not to say I wasn't able to enjoy the game despite it's nauseating camera, It's still a very fun game to play, about on par with the original, but it still feels like it's concepts are half baked. If you plan on playing either of these I highly recommend playing Umbrella chronicles over this, as much as I enjoyed how faithful Darkside Chronicles was to RE2 and Veronica, almost all of the other flaws found from the first game are amplified in Darkside on top of it's terrible camera. Check it out if you're a diehard Resident Evil fan, but this game is completely skippable otherwise.
