3.5/5 ★ – FoofDeckman's review of Sker Ritual.
This is not the COD Zombie killer, I know a lot of people have been talking it up to be, but as someone that's a huge zombies fan and really dislikes the turn newer zombies has gone, Sker Ritual unfortunately still doesn't scratch that itch. That isn't to say it's a bad game, cause it does have a lot of qualities I really found myself enjoying, but to the people who are COD Zombie fans like me and are asking if it's worth playing just for more zombies until the next Treyarch game, then probably not, however it is still a solid standalone COD Zombie inspired game.
Instead of COD Zombies this reminded me a lot more of COD Extinction from Call of Duty Ghosts. You have a set of objects and slowly work through a level until you reach the end, which is fun, but unfortunately has a lot of the same issues as Extinction did, particularly in replay value. The reason COD Zombies has had me hooked since the original Black Ops was because of it's replay value, I can play the same map over and over again and just based on how the game is designed and how fun it is to reach higher and higher rounds, keeps it fresh. Sker Ritual has a replayability problem, because after I've beaten one of the current four maps, I have no interest in revisiting them. While Sker Ritual is very similar to COD and very heavily inspired by it, I don't think it's fair to compare a small indie project worked on by a handful of people, to a gamemode that's part of the biggest non-sports related franchise in gaming. This is not COD Zombies and it's clear that the developers tried their best to keep the essence of what makes it work while taking the concept in their own unique direction. It has its moments with some really fun maps and enemies, but it overall just felt somewhat forgettable after experiencing everything Sker Ritual has to offer.
