2.5/5 ★ – GAMEPROFF's review of Silent Hill 4: The Room.
I am very split on this game. For long distances, its pretty interesting and has quit a few good ideas how to tell its story and how to provide its concepts, like for example the parts were its revolving about voyourism, where you can look out of your window into the neighbourhood or into the bedroom of your attractive neighbour, and you really get the feeling that its wrong what youre doing right now, but then again something interesting could have happened to her and thats why you continue to look, or like the game half a game to establish your flat as a safe haven, where your health gets regenerated, before dropping that concept let it become more and more hostile against you until there are hauntings that
let you lose your health (and I have to admit that I didnt noticed until the end of the game that you can purify these hauntings). What breaks the game for me is that it gets pretty annoying at the middle of the game, it introduces super many annoying elements like that you have to play through every area of the game again and I am not even talking about the eternally going escortmission, the partner is actually very competent and a help in many battles, even when she really has problems with pathfinding. Also, Henry is just a big looser unlike James, Harry or Heather who all react like humans to the weird monsters that are suddenly appearing, also the music is a step back from the other games.
But as it appears was the game not planed as a actual main entry of the game, which explains all of that.
Sadly, that this was the last Silent Hill game and there was never a sequel again.
