4/5 ★ – GamerBoyMan's review of Inscryption.
Spoilers : I would say about once or twice a year do I play a gamr that is so fun that it reminds me why I want to become a game developer. This is one of those games, at least for the most part. I think the entire firdt part of the game in the cabin with Leshy is borderline flawless and is the best part of the game. Honestly I found the entirity of the 8-bit section to be completely boring and just a slodge to get through. How can you go from this awesome 3d aesthetic card game to almost black and white 8bit and think thats a good idea. I mean at least make it 16bit or something better. Its just nowhere near as visually appealing. Also, personally, I think they could have cut all of the live action stuff from the game. Its almost an entirely seperate story to the actual story of the game and doesn't need to be there. Not to mention the acting is kinda suspect. Finally, the robot section of the game I think is really fun again! Its just very bleak and dull looking and doesnt hold nearly the same scary aesthetic as the cabin (I think it completely falls flat aesthetic wise). Then at the end of the game you basically go through a speedrun of glitchy battles against the 2 leftover scrybes which makes me feel like its honestly just a waste of resources. Perhaps im in the minority here, but i would have prefered if the game was just all 1st person content and you just go from scrybe to scrybe. I mean they already had the models and animations, it really seemed like a waste to have it just at the end of the game for like 2 seconds. Back to the cabin, there was something special about the mystery of what was going on before you found out that the 4th wall is being broken and its just a part of some fantasy land. When your at that part of the game, it feels like theres just some crazed powerful kidnapper who tries to play games with you and is much more engaging. If the game ended at the cabin i would have given it a 5/5 (albiet, wishing it was lower priced)
