4.5/5 ★ – Goldenfox96's review of DOOM.
This is the kind of arcade fps shooter game I like. I love how you can just focus on shooting without the story breaking up the flow. In saying that, I really enjoyed the plot too. It was simple yet intriguing and being able to collect items throughout the game that expanded the lore just added an extra layer to keep me fully
Immersed in the world of doom. I’m a big reader, so getting to read through the monster, character and environment entries was awesome and made me want to explore every nook and cranny for all the items and secret entries. It was like I was slowly uncovering a mysterious history. Who was doom guy? What happened to him? Why is he so feared?
I love the callbacks to the original doom games. It knows the game is resetting what it once was, but pays so much homage to its history. Finding the levers to the classic levels was difficult but worth being able to play through old levels and relive the nostalgia.
If it’s not clear, I loved collecting all the different things throughout the game, including all the mini doom guys. I wish it unlocked a bit more than it did but oh well. Using the map to get around was intuitive, and figuring out how to get into the secret rooms was always an intriguing blast of fun.
The blasting of monsters and hectic battles throughout was also amazing. It’s definitely the main draw to the game for most. Again it was fun to figure the best way to take down the demons. I like how it was a fast paced strategy you had to take on to get through battles. Having so many guns with a couple different ways to use them, always made for a fascinating battle. It made the arcade repetitiveness of it all always feel fresh and new.
Onto doom eternal now!
