4/5 ★ – GoronChief's review of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This game got rid of some of the key aspects of Zelda games. It’s Zelda + survival and I think it’s awesome! I can understand why people don’t like it but I’m willing to offer my thoughts to my fellow Zeldites. The music isn’t much like other Zelda games. Though I’m not upset by it. People say the soundtrack is weak and I think otherwise. I assume when people say this, they’re probably forgetting about Goron City, Rito Village, the Champion themes, the boss themes (Talus battle 👌), Hyrule Castle and the fact that everything was recorded with a live orchestra. The dungeons aren’t traditional. Because they got rid of tools (hookshot for example) the puzzles were minor. In the major dungeons of the game, you only see one type of enemy. Plus, opening chests got a lot less exiting. However, the way they did the dungeons was one of the best ways they could. They aren’t as big and the bosses aren’t nearly as creative, but they were still great. Also, my favorite Zelda game (Majora’s mask) also only has 4 dungeons and a ton of heart pieces. BotW has 4 dungeons and let’s be honest. The shrines are EXACLY like heart pieces except they adapted to Link’s new abilities like climbing. Four Soul Gems are traded for a heart container or stamina vessel. They are literally heart pieces, people. Personally, the story was probably the best they could do. Not too great but for a survival game, they did an amazing job. Most of the story happens before Link wakes up. Achieving the memories as puzzle pieces of a giant story was the best way it could’ve happened because of all the freedom. The main characters were made perfectly. I felt so close to all of them, and I’m sure BotW 2 is gonna expand on that. This game is beautiful. The graphics are top notch. I love climbing up mountains just to see the amazing view. This is honestly the best visual game I have ever seen. That’s that. In BotW, the battles were a lot more fun. I know all I did in OoT was hide behind my shield. Well, now shields break so you gotta move more, plus flurry rushes are so cool. But I’m sad that the variety of enemies was so poor. LoZ has so many great and challenging foes that were just tossed aside. Though I will admit, the AI is so fun to watch. I hope y’all appreciate my very big review. BotW was an amazing game. I love it to pieces and it is one of the greatest Zelda games of all time.
