5/5 ★ – Grand_Momis's review of Death Stranding: Director's Cut.

Death Stranding is easily one of the most unique gaming experiences I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. After completing the game a second time with the Director’s Cut edition, I can safely say this is one of my favorite games of all time. Kojima has pushed the envelope before with innovating the stealth genre with Metal Gear Solid and he does this again with action games with Death Stranding. To be honest, it’s hard to categorize this game into a single genre as it is its own unique experience. This game distinguishes itself with its unique gameplay, engaging narrative, and its outstanding soundtrack. The basis premise of the story is relatively simple: deliver packages in a post apocalyptic world. However it gets more complicated the more you delve into it as it introduces many unique characters, enemies, and world building. The world building in this game is incredible as it introduces a ruined America that is slowly being connected into a new network. The technology is also very cool as it’s designed by legendary artist Yoji Shinkawa. Shinkawa’s technology art and character designs make this game look incredibly gorgeous and unique. This is my choice for the best looking Decima engine game as it is visually spectacular. The gameplay is hit or miss for most people as it is entirely its own thing. I enjoy the way the gameplay encourages creativity and different playstyles. Like Kojima’s previous game, Metal Gear Solid V, Death Stranding can be approached in several different ways. You can also approach combat with just a rope or several different amazing weapons. The gameplay is always fresh as the game introduces new tools and other gameplay features on a steady basis. Lastly, the soundtrack for this game is spectacular. A majority of the music from this game is from Icelandic artist Low Roar. Their music is calm and creates a very chill atmosphere and experience. Overall, all of these features make Death Stranding a modern masterpiece and I very much look forward to the followup from Kojima.
