3.5/5 ★ – Groovy's review of Cyberpunk 2077.

When everything falls into place, it absolutely works for me. I love the world of the Dark Future, having played a bit of the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game and I caved into getting this after Edgerunners and some really good tie in comics. The game is very respectful of the source material, and the world is not only incredible but the culmination and celebration of decades of Cyberpunk media. I could talk endlessly about the attention to detail and all the little things like the slang, music, ads, vehicles, the way people dress/chrome themselves. I also appreciate how in most cases conversations with others feel a lot more engaging than a lot of other games due to them typically involving the player having to sit down with the character they're talking to and eat/drink with them. It feels less sterile then a lot of other rpgs. The main story starts incredible strong, and I started to care less and less as it went on, which is a pretty common complaint I hear. Not bad, it just enters mid territory quickly. However, the side quests are incredible - a lot is packed into these and half could have been the main plots to other games or other media. Gameplay can get repetitive, and it also shares a lot of similarities to Witcher 3, but I found myself getting bored of the loop here way quicker. I do appreciate the many different builds and ways of approaching certain situations (I maxxed out body so I ripped open a lot of doors.) That being said, the main draw of this game is the vibes and story, and post Edgerunners closure. It's a game for fans of the world, the authors and creators who helped inspire it, and for people who want to use a sandevistan/katana combo to chop 20 people in half in a second.
