3.5/5 ★ – Groovy's review of Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars.

A short but sweet Yoko Taro banger and a very unique rpg experience. I love the tabletop feel of the presentation and the game master does a great job. The illustrations for the cards are fantastic and having the game be literally made entirely out of cards is awesome. Combat is super simple yet fun but definitely not very difficult. Side content doesn't really exist outside of collecting cards and treasure, but I love the idea of character and monster cards having a flip side where you can read about their backstories (that usually reveal a neat little twist.) The story is simple and even generic but there are times where Yoko Taro will hit you with his classic oh shit moments that recontexualize the game thus far. I got the true ending which, given how the endings are set up, makes me feel like unlocking the others isn't really worth it. The music is mostly good although the majority is pretty stereotypical fantasy rpg sounding with the true Keiichi Okabe bangers being more few and far between than I expected. Maybe wait for a sale for this one but it's still great and I would love a sequel that expands on the concept a bit more with a larger scope.
