4/5 ★ – Hayden_O's review of Samurai Warriors: Chronicles.
This was a launch title for the 3DS in Japan, which is incredible given that it runs buttery smooth, especially compared to the 3DS Warriors titles that released towards the end of the upgraded “New” console’s lifespan. It’s not just the gameplay; the adrenaline-pumping soundtrack is incredible, it’s fully voice acted in Japanese, and the expressively detailed character models hold up in and out of combat. There’s so much style and personality on display, with a distinct art direction pulling from traditional Japanese paintings.
The character interactions during and between battles give more context and purpose to each fight, while the second screen makes it easy to direct troops, navigate the map, and follow missions during combat. I’m absolutely floored by the love and detail put in here- it’s inherently repetitive, but a great time regardless, and easily my favorite non-Zelda Warriors game.
