3/5 ★ – Hazzi's review of 2Xtreme.

2Xtreme landed in 1996 as a follow-up to ESPN Extreme Games, ditching the ESPN name but keeping the mix of high-speed races on rollerblades, skateboards, bikes, and snowboards. It’s a fun idea, and while the execution isn’t perfect, it still delivers a decent dose of arcade-style chaos. The game throws you across 12 courses with a scoring system that tracks everything from race position to tricks and knockdowns. Health management adds a bit of strategy, and you can tweak difficulty or turn off fighting if you want a more straightforward race. Multiplayer is where 2Xtreme shines. Split-screen races are intense, especially with how easy it is to crash or miss obstacles. Solo play can get repetitive, though, especially with tracks that start to blur together. Critics were mixed—some loved the speed and challenge, others called it dated even back then. Still, it’s a solid arcade racer with some unique touches. What Could Have Helped Sharper graphics, more varied tracks, and a deeper single-player mode would have pushed this further. As it stands, it’s fun in bursts, especially with a friend.
