4/5 ★ – Hello_there's review of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

This is a good game. I went into this game expecting it to be the worse of the 90s Star Wars games because for 1. I played the ported PS5 version, which means it’s gonna have the same issues it had on PS1. For 2. I heard this was the worst. 3. This is a movie tie in game, but not only that.. it’s a tie in to one of the worst Star Wars movies. All the odds were stacked against this game… and it was surprising pretty good. The gameplay was really good, the graphics were solid, the story worked, the vast worlds were amazing, and the voice acting was great. Starting with the gameplay, if I’m not mistaken, this is the first full fledged lightsaber Star Wars game in the series, and it offered a lot. The gameplay and controls felt very good, and felt like it could’ve been gameplay from a 2011 game. The story was the same as the Phantom Menace, but cut down (which I think was a good thing). It took all the extra, useless Phantom Menace stuff out of the game which was a good call. The graphics hold up well (but to be fair I played the PS5 port). The voice acting is pretty good, and I was surprised to hear some modern day voice acting legends in this. The best part of this game however is definitely the world. The world was genuinely so vast, and felt alive. You got to interact with NPC’s go on side missions, trade with them, ect. It worked so beautifully, and made the game feel years ahead of its time (this game came out in 1999 btw). My only issues with the game, is how cheap some of the bosses were. Often times there was no health kit before a boss, so I had to start the Coruscant, and final level over to try and not lose any health (that was annoying). Also for the Darth Maul boss, it’s pretty much impossible to win, unless you find the secret door in the middle of the fight. If you find the secret door, you can get a full health revive, but if not, you’re cooked. Overall, this game was way ahead of its time, and is an easy 8/10.
