4/5 ★ – HomeVideoHustle's review of Far Cry 6.
I’ve been a fan of the FarCry series for years and I’ve played every mainline release. Hell, I even own a copy of the Uwe Bill film! I bought this back when it came out but just finally got around to playing it. I had started it about 2 years ago but ended up dropping it. It starts out pretty meh, but it gets more interesting the more you play it.
I love that the main character actually talks now and isn’t a mute stand in for you as the player. It made the story even more enjoyable than normal and that was needed because even though I love this series, it’s starting to really feel repetitive with this installment. There are only so many bases I can capture, treasure hunts I can go on and map clearing missions that I can do before it all feels like I’m doing the same thing over and over.
The best parts of the game by far are sequences where Giancarlo Esposito is playing the Villain Anton Castillo. I would blaze through missions just so I could get another cutscene with him. The story is hit and miss and by the time I got to the final mission, i was more than ready to wrap it up.
Gunplay is fun like usual, I still hate driving cars in first person, upgrading weapons is still fun and I do still get a kick out of wingsuiting my way through the skies.
It’s a fun game but it feels like the same game I’ve been playing for years. The story just wasn’t as strong this time and Giancarlo carries this damn thing on his back.
