4/5 ★ – Hootus900's review of Advance Wars: 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.

I initially picked up this game not really intending to enjoy it. I saw a lot of people excited since they loved the originals, but I figured I’d show my support for them releasing it after the initial indefinite delay. I find myself getting sucked into this game for hours without realizing the time is flying by. I was worried that it would feel mundane and boring, especially since I had just recently finished 3 houses and was feeling tactical combat fatigue. Something about the mechanics in this game really speaks to me and I have a lot of fun playing it (minus fog of war, that mode can go to hell). Each of the units are fun to mess around with and even though I’m not the best at these kinds of games it felt great to feel smart when I was doing good. Some of the cons for me feel unfair for me to think of them as cons, since most of them are skill issues on my part. I found that matches take a really long time for me. For reference, the last mission in the first campaign took me a whopping 3 hours to finish! As for other ones, I didn’t really feel good about swapping my CO’s to learn their different quirks. I felt it was more efficient to just stick with the ones I was familiar with, though black hole rising slaps that down quickly. Again not a bad thing objectively, but for my play style that’s how I felt. All in all, I think this is a must play on the switch. The art style is beautiful, and the animations for the super skills are really awesome. If you think you might enjoy this game in the slightest, I promise you will.
