IAmAShelton's review of Infernax.

I want to like Infernax more. It's got personality, it's got an NES feel that's incredibly accurate, and it's wonderfully difficult, but it demands too much perfection while not demanding perfection from itself. Just like the old times, enemies are placed in ways to catch you off guard and their attack frequencies can be unpredictable at times. It's too accurate to the days of old. Something like that needs to be improved, not replicated. Hitboxes are incredibly strange as well. There are times when I should have gotten hit but didn't and times where I was hit when I shouldn't have. Nothing kills a potentially fantastic game like this more than knowing you sometimes need pixel perfect accuracy but the game doesn't give it to you. Other aspects seem cool, though. There are side-quests that only trigger once you receive them, and the boss fights can keep you on your toes and make you think. Platforming is engaging and, for the most part, enemy placements keep things engaging. The action keeps on coming and every section demands something different from you which helps keep things interesting while slogging through a dungeon. I wish death and respawns weren't so drawn out though. After every death, you see your body pummeled and depending on where you last saved, you might have to watch a few scenes before you begin. In a game where you're supposed to die a lot, that's not a great way to keep me engaged. I died. I get it. I don't need you to literally beat me over the head with it. I just want to try again. But I won't be trying this again.
