5/5 ★ – IgnacioGG117's review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

"Life keeps forcing cruel choices" Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 absolutely floored me. What begins as a pretty straight forward action/adventure game, quickly evolves into a wondrous, gripping, whimsical and heart-breaking story about loss and the grief that comes with it. Not many games have been able to tug at my heartstrings like this one did. In the same vein of Final Fantasy and Persona, the cast of characters in Expedition 33 are so well-rounded, sympathetic and relatable. Each one as unique and complex as the last, i can easily see any of them being fan favorites. I would gladly take 10 more games with these characters. I've played 55 hours and i feel like i've barely scratched the surface of this world. The writing, the world-building, the visuals, people say nothing is perfect, but this might be the closest thing to perfection. Clair Obscur keeps finding new and exciting ways to innovate and build upon the mechanics of a turn-based RPG, starting with the parry mechanic, which has to be the most satisfying and precise version of parrying i have ever played. Not once did it feel like i was being cheated out of a parry or a perfect dodge, if i ever failed it was solely my mistake, but everytime you hit it, its the best feeling in the world. The depth of the combat might be daunting at first, but once you get a handle on Luminas and Pictos, you will start creating some insane lethal attacks with ease. I have truly never seen anything like it. Oh yeah, and the soundtrack is a BANGER. I could keep gushing about this game forever, but i gotta keep going to 100% it and start New Game+. Im ready for whatever Sandfall Interactive is cooking next. We continue.
