5/5 ★ – IndianaLikeTheDog's review of Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways.

One of the best expansions I’ve ever played. Expansive and wide spanning, this story chronicles the tale of Ada Wong during the events of Resident Evil 4 Remake. While I didn’t expect much going into this DLC as I wasn’t particularly a fan of the original Separate Ways (I never even finished it due to its nature as a story light affair with little to offer other than going through the original RE4 campaign backwards), this take made me a fan. Treading back through RE4 Remake’s environments and using its excellent combat system again after all these months since launch made me remember why I loved this game so much in the first place while giving me a new experience as I could see the events of the story through Ada’s eyes. The gameplay is as top notch as ever with some fun changes to make Ada feel different from Leon. The grapple mechanic feels a lot better to use here than in other iterations of Ada’s gameplay we’ve seen in the past (namely the original Separate Ways and her campaign in Resident Evil 6), taking obvious inspiration from the Arkham games as there are more points to grapple to than ever. This all makes Ada feel more acrobatic than Leon, adding a good layer of difference to her gameplay. The IRIS mechanic isn’t as fleshed out but a good aesthetic pace change from Leon’s more militaristic UI. The story is also fantastic and was way better than I expected it would be. While not as good as a full game would have allowed, it weaves in and out of the original campaign’s narrative moments seamlessly while also containing a mini character arc for Ada and setup for the ever looming Resident Evil 5 Remake. This DLC is amazing, it is everything you could ever want from a DLC expansion add on to Resident Evil 4 Remake and a necessary addition to the RE4R experience.
