4.5/5 ★ – ItsBujy's review of Ghost of Tsushima.

In Ghost of Tsushima you take on the role of a Royal Samurai known as Jin Sakai of the Shimura Clan. Throughout this adventure you will be trying to stop the Mongolian invasion and slaughter of your people on the island of Tsushima. While doing so you’ll be learning ways of the samurai as well as learning more stealthy approaches similar to a Ninja. All and all I had a fantastic experience with this game. First let’s talk about the visuals. I was lucky enough to play this on the PS5 with the directors editor, so the graphics were absolutely stunning. I could see how this is a great swan song on the PS4’s graphical power prior to the PS5’s release. The wind being your guide to your objects of check markers was an amazing touch, but the best part of the graphics was when you were riding your horse through the fields as the wind blows through the grass! Overall this is one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played on console. Next let’s talk about the gameplay! There are plenty of variables of how you can approach combat encounters. Do you want to be extremely up front and battle your way through the Mongolian army? Would you prefer to stick for the shadows assassinating your targets without making a sound? How about using utility weapons like a bow or kunai? All of this is possible in this game! I feel as I leaned more towards the stealthy side of the gameplay but still had plenty of times where I approached combat head on. The combat is also extremely smooth with your sword as it offers you 4 styles that helps you against the types of enemies that you face. All and all it was a great amount of variety and felt like the best “Assassins Creed” like game I’ve played since Shadow of Mordor/War. I usually go in depth a little more on the story but for story reasons I’ll keep this part short and sweet. It was a fairly straight forward story of defending your home land, fight the big bad guy, with a minor twist at the end! It was very well put together, but I’ve seen something like this before! Overall I think that Sucker Punch studios nailed it with this title and I hope to see another game in the franchise moving forward! If you’re a fan of Assassins Creed/Batman Arkham/Shadow of War or any other stealth/combat combination games I would highly recommend this to you.
