4/5 ★ – Itsgrimsby's review of Nobody Saves the World.
I've gone back and forth on whether or not this game is a 3/5 or a 4/5. It has a lot of elements that I really like, but I wasn't sure they were ever enough for me to really love the game. In the end I've gone with a 4 because by the end of the story I felt I'd settled into a rhythm with the game that I enjoyed.
Nobody Saves the World for me is a laid back "do other things" game. I can mindlessly grind challenges or dungeons while listening to a podcast or waching a tv show. I don't want every game to be for that experience but this is one that worked well for that.
I very rarely buy games now thanks to having a large backlog on top of the PS Plus Extra subscription, but this game was on my radar and I did snap it up as soon as I saw it on sale. It got my attention when it released because I really liked the idea of having different costumes I could switch between to change up my abilities.
In practice this game is very satisfying. I enjoyed trying different builds and using different characters and ability combinations to get my forms up to S Rank. Though this really has no real benefit other than making your abilities more powerful, and besides the Impossible Dungeon there isn't much content beyond the end of the game to use this new power on. I also really like how each of the dungeons is themed differently and think the game has some fun environments.
The downside to this game is that sometimes it feels grindy and some dungeon modifiers are punishing early on. There were a couple of instances with this game that I turned it off because I wasn't having fun anymore. Fortunately I was always able to come back to it and find something else to do; be it tackling a different dungeon or leveling up a new form.
I've also included the DLC in this playthrough, which is also fun to have running alongside the campaign as it offers a puzzle side to the game that makes great use of the abiliy to customize your forms.
In terms of trophy thoughts; I'm still grinding my way through this game's trophy set. Its going to take a little bit of time, but nothing on the list is a problem as long as you enjoy the gameplay loop. If you don't, I wouldn't say its worth the grind.
Overall Nobody Saves the World can be a really fun time, but I don't think it's a game that will forever have a lasting impression on me.
