5/5 ★ – Itsgrimsby's review of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
I’ve tried to play The Witcher 3 on about three different occasions. The first two times I didn’t even make it out of White Orchard before just bouncing off the game for some reason. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it; I think I just found something about it intimidating.
First of all there was the fact that this is the third game in a series that also has a history and lore built up in a book series too. Then there was also the fact that the game was packed full of systems and side quests and things to do; and being a completionist at heart it felt like an impossible challenge. I overcame this by telling myself I’d just mainline the story and then do side quests here and there when something piqued my interest.
Fast forward to now and I’ve had a great time with not just The Witcher 3 but it’s two expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine as well. I’ve come to really like Geralt as a character, as well as the many side characters he meets on his adventure. I think everything in this game is the backdrop to a great story and great side stories.
It looks beautiful too, and this is particularly apparent in Toussaint in the Blood and Wine expansion.
The Witcher 3 is a great adventure and I’m glad I finally gave it the chance it deserved.
