4/5 ★ – JeffersBradley's review of Blue Prince.
A game almost designed perfectly for my brain. The journey to the first roll of credits with my partner evoked the brain tingling feeling of other puzzles games like Obra Dinn or Outer Wilds. I do agree that the RNG can be frustrating, but completely controllable the longer you play.
We achieved the sanctum keys without guidance, but the more esoteric puzzles almost caused me to quit. Taking a break and going for challenge runs (Day 1 run, Trophy runs etc.) reinvigorated my love of the game, and whenever we ran into a brick wall, we allowed ourselves a hint or guide online.
It's not perfect, it's mysteries do taper off towards the end, and the RNG nature of it means you could be working towards a goal that is no longer relevant as you solved the three puzzles that come after it. I have yet to complete Dare Mode or Cursed Mode as I'm waiting for the new endings to be added, but given my near 80 hour playthrough, I can say it was a deeply engaging and tremendous game.
