3.5/5 ★ – JetDusk's review of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne - HD Remaster.
There are a lot of things I like about Nocturne. The story is interesting, the world is interesting, and pretty much every boss has an interesting mechanic tied around it. While this game can be tough, most of it is manageable with a different approach.
However, some situations require exactly one approach without mountains of grinding, and that’s not even for Hard mode. Some bosses are a nice challenge until they pull out one move toward the end to ruin everything. I should mention I didn’t go for the Fiends after Hell Biker and Trumpeter, so I did not achieve the True Demon ending and went for Yosuga instead.
The main reason being, I really don’t like the encounter rate in this game. It makes the dungeons a lot more tedious than the simple ones would be, and the confusing ones end up being more confusing. I liked some of the dungeons, but getting in a random fight every two steps got aggravating at multiple points.
I did enjoy the challenge of the game, but it will be a while before I attempt true demon, I really just want to be done with the game and move on to trying out Shin Megami Tensei V at this point.
